Two economic engines in East Flanders
East Flanders runs on two engines that have little to do with each other. To the north-east lies the Waasland: the Waasland port area, the logistics zone around Sint-Niklaas and the E17 corridor form one of the densest warehousing and distribution belts in the country. Hauliers, warehousing operators and packaging firms dominate there. Ghent is something else entirely. The university, VIB and the biotech campus in Zwijnaarde have built a cluster of life sciences, plant biotechnology and medtech, while North Sea Port adds steel, chemicals and car assembly.
Further south, the Dender area around Aalst and Dendermonde remains a classic SME fabric of food, construction and retail. A biotech scale-up and a haulier from Beveren look unrelated, yet in East Flanders they ask us the same question: how do we get our internal processes out of email attachments? The answer is rarely a heavy software package. More often a simple portal or a well-targeted integration does the job, and it pays back quickly because it removes daily retyping.
How we work in East Flanders from Brussels
Espero-Soft has no branch in Ghent or the Waasland; our two offices are Brussels and Lille. We would rather say so plainly than rent an address to look local. Ghent is about an hour from our Brussels office and Aalst half an hour, so we come out for the first meeting, the scoping workshop and the pre-launch demo. Those meetings happen at your premises, where we can see how your team actually works.
The rest of the project runs remotely but tightly framed: one point of contact, a shared plan, a weekly check-in and a staging environment where you see every change. For a logistics client this usually starts with a portal or an integration. For a research-driven company, it starts with a bilingual site that looks technically credible to an international investor. Everything runs in Dutch, with English added whenever your audience needs it.
A few checkpoints come up in our projects across East Flanders. Research companies often publish in English first, so the site structure has to run Dutch and English side by side with correct hreflang tags. Hauliers need a portal that works on a smartphone, in the warehouse as well as on the road. For everyone, the legal notice carries the company number and VAT details, with a GDPR-compliant privacy policy. We also make sure every contact form reaches the right inbox from launch day.
