The local business fabric
Ostend still lives off the sea, but no longer in the old way. The port has become the home base of Belgium's offshore wind sector: maintenance vessels, assembly firms and suppliers set out from here to the wind farms offshore — an economy of contracts, schedules and specialised crews. Around GreenBridge and the Ostend Science Park sit research and young companies in the blue economy and sustainable technology; Plassendale forms the industrial hinterland; and Ostend-Bruges airport runs mainly on freight. Alongside all of that, the city remains a seaside resort: hotels, restaurants, holiday rentals and attractions whose revenue is made in a few summer weeks and long weekends. Those two rhythms call for different digital choices — a booking system that absorbs a summer peak is nothing like a client portal for an offshore supplier — and we build both.
