Strategy: a realistic online roadmap for your SME

A digital strategy turns a list of tools into a coherent plan: where your company stands, where it wants to go and how you will measure progress. For a Belgian SME, it avoids random investments and helps bring teams on board. This section gathers our guides to build that approach step by step.

What a digital strategy covers for an SME

A solid strategy covers five pillars: customer experience across all channels, internal processes, the business model, data and company culture. Building a website alone therefore falls short. You also need to automate repetitive tasks, go paperless and use figures to make decisions. Finally, people remain central: without team buy-in, even the best tools gather dust.

In practice, the approach follows a few steps. First, an audit measures your current maturity and identifies the most time-consuming processes. Second, a vision at 1, 3 and 5 years sets the goals. Then a roadmap ranks projects by priority and return on investment, starting with quick wins that build support. Finally, you measure, learn and adjust continuously.

Measuring your strategy: the KPIs that matter

Steering blind is costly. Therefore, pick a limited number of indicators, five to eight at most, directly linked to your goals. For your website, track organic traffic, conversion rate and time on page. For social media, look at engagement and click-through rate. For advertising, monitor cost per acquisition and return on ad spend (ROAS). However, avoid vanity metrics such as the raw number of likes.

A dashboard brings these figures together in one place, for example with Google Analytics 4 and Google Search Console. On the adoption side, also measure how much people use the new tools, the number of support tickets and user satisfaction. Review these figures with your team every quarter.

Our strategy articles and when to call on us

Four articles explore the subject: how to succeed in a transformation project, the essential KPIs to measure your online performance, the key steps to digitalise a traditional business and how to support teams facing resistance to change. You will find checklists, common mistakes and examples of tools such as a CRM or a collaborative messaging app.

Bring in outside support when projects pile up without an overall vision, when tools remain underused or when nobody tracks results. The Espero-Soft team helps Belgian SMEs and self-employed professionals define their roadmap, choose the right tools and lead change, from a website to a custom platform.
